Congratulations to GB Labrador of the Comedy Cartel
Our very own GB Labrador of the Comedy Cartel, the only group in the Philippines that performs point of view stand up comedy, won 2nd place in the English Division of the 4th Annual Hong Kong Comedy Festival held at Take Out Comedy. Watch him as he performs tonight, Wednesday, at Votre Bar in Quezon City (on top of East St. Louis) near ABS-CBN. Our other Filipino representatives that participated in the comedy festival were the funny Noel Gascon, Eri Neeman, and Raffy Taruc. This is a big win for Pinoy stand up comedy, proving once again that Pinoy talent is world class.

4th Annual Hong Kong International Comedy Festival and Competitions
hi comedy fans!
TakeOut Comedy is excited to announce the schedule for The 4th Annual
Hong Kong International Comedy Festival from Oct 6-16!
This year, we welcome back SHECKY WONG (as seen on Comedy Central,
Showtime, MTV)! He helped open our club in Feb 2007 and we are excited
to see his return. He is one of the godfathers of Asian American
standup comics. He has been on the comedy scene since the 1980’s,
appearing on numerous TV shows and on the national comedy club
circuit.
We will also have VIVEK MAHBUBANI (2007 Chinese and 2008 English HK
Funniest Comedian) perform his FIRST English One Man show!
We will as always also have Open Mics, Improv by Peoples Liberation
Improv, a Free Standup Comedy Workshop, and our growing Chinese and
English Standup Comedy Competitions!
We have grown tremendously since our first festival in 2007,
especially our English Standup Comedy Competition! Last year, we had
30 contestants representing 16 countries compete for $20,000HK in cash
prizes! The Finals last year had 9 comics representing 9 different
countries!
This year, we hope to more international as now we have $40,000HK in
cash prizes for the competitions!
If you want to compete, please go to www.hkcomedyfestival.com and
download the application. The deadline is Sept 1, 2010.
THANKS and all details are on www.hkcomedyfestival.com!
cheers and its great to bring more laughter to HK and Asia!

Take Out Comedy in Hong Kong
There’s a comedy club in Hong Kong called Take Out Comedy in the Soho district that is run by comedian Jami Gong, who moved from New York to Hong Kong to start out this club. This room is a very intimate room with just a small stage and chairs arranged in a way that people have no choice but to pay attention to the comics. In fact, the place doesn’t even sell drinks or food. It just sells pure comedy. The comedians are of different races and they have English nights and Cantonese nights (and I think even Mandarin but you’ll have to check). The comics range from experienced headliners to newbies just starting out.
The owner and host Jami claims it’s the first comedy club in Asia, but there was actually another club in Manila called The Comfort Room, which opened in 2002 and closed after a couple of years that was actually the first real comedy club in Asia, if you don’t count the gay comedy clubs in Malate and Quezon City. The audience is usually composed of expats from different countries and some local Chinese people. They are very receptive and are hungry for laughs, which is always good for comedians with good material and a bag of chips. Some Filipino comedians that have performed there include Kevin Camia, Tim Tayag, Chris Musni, Noel Gascon and Marlon Olivan. If you’re an experienced comedian passing through town, just contact Jami and ask for a guest set. If you suck and are not that funny yet, then it might be better to just pay the entrance and just watch. Either way, you’ll have fun. Afterwards you can eat and drink in the Soho area.
